Thinking back to when I started learning to play I can certainly relate to some of the points mentioned in this article. Having read it, it made me re-evaluate how I teach my own children as well as the pupils that I work with.
I was never too keen on set practice times throughout the day/week and would rather just play what and when I wanted to. I was fortunate enough to have a mentor that allowed me to be a free spirit and he would educate me in a way that worked around my time table and music likes. I appreciate that this approach doesn’t work for everyone but it certainly worked for me.
