What a Manic week!
I am not sure where to begin this week. There has been so much going on in the news that I could write about a thousand blogs!!
Firstly we have a new Prime Minister, Theresa May, our first female PM since the reign of Mrs Thatcher. After the wishy-washy David Cameron left his post after losing the Brexit vote, Theresa May has stepped up to the plate and made a stand. Its early days, but she is already proving to be a ‘doer’ rather than a ‘talker’.
As we are interested in education, it is also important to know that Theresa May has ditched former Education minister Nicky Morgan, and appointed Justine Greening for the new role. Justine Greening attended comprehensive schooling in her youth, which may bode well in relation to some of the important decisions that she will encounter. She is also quite open about her sexuality, not that I can see, or how it should affect her new role as Education Minister. Through reading news reports, it seems Justine Greening is already being warned by teachers about school government funding… Let’s hope she can tackle these issues competently.
I don’t want to delve too deep into the terror attacks on Nice, but I can only offer my deepest sympathies and thoughts to the families and friends that are suffering at the moment and left without loved ones. Being a teacher and a father, it was tragic to hear that many children lost their lives.
Turkey have now got serious issues with armies being called in to deal with governmental problems. It’s crazy to see this on the news directly after all of the reports from Nice… It makes you wonder what the world is coming to??!!!
Then to top it all off, Our new London Mayor Sadiq Kahn has announced there will be a government spend of £400K to tackle the growing problems of knife crime! as knife crime is rife with youths at the moment, and it is something that is happening even inside school grounds, it is an issue that definitely needs sorting… sooner rather than later.
All of these stories on BBC ‘News at Ten’ tonight (15/07/16)… One after the other!!!
Hard to get your head around where the world is ending up isn’t it?!
If you would like to chat about any of the stories mentioned in my blog this week, and there are a lot open for discussion, please feel free to talk on our (1st Note Education) forum, or on one of our many social media pages from where you received the link.
